Regional meeting in Sarajevo unites myeloma community

On Saturday, 18 October, a regional meeting of patients, doctors, associations, and institutional representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia was held in Sarajevo, under the title “Together for Life with Myeloma” – Myeloma Day 2025, organised by Mijelom u BiH, (the Association of Patients with Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, and Other Rare Blood Diseases in Bosnia and Herzegovina).
The event gathered experts in the field of haematology, as well as representatives of patients, associations, and institutions from the three countries, with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation and establishing joint initiatives that contribute to better understanding, treatment, and support for people living with myeloma.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the importance of unified action between haematologists and patients, sharing experiences, and coordinated advocacy for access to modern therapies across the region. A special segment of the programme was dedicated to the promotion of the book “Light Chain Amyloidosis (AL Amyloidosis) – A Guide for Patients and Their Families”, presented by Dr. Sandra Bašić-Kinda (Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb), with an introductory address by the Mira Armour from Mijelom CRO.
Participants were also addressed by distinguished haematologists including Prof. Dr. Jelena Bila (University Clinical Centre of Serbia), Dr. Vasvija Katica-Šarić, MSc (Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo), and Prof. Dr. Sandra Hotić (University Clinical Centre Banja Luka).
As part of the programme, acknowledgements and certificates of appreciation were awarded for contributions to the advancement of treatment and regional solidarity.
The regional meeting confirmed that the joint efforts of professionals, institutions, and patients are of great benefit for people living with myeloma and that Bosnia and Herzegovina holds an active role in regional and European initiatives. MPE thanks and appreciates everyone involved and the work they are doing for myeloma patients in their respective countries.
