We all looked forward to meeting our MPE community in Amsterdam at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) of 6-8 March 2020. Currently, there is a world health alert due to the outbreak of the coronavirus infection. The nature of the outbreak and the updates on the situation surrounding it show that we are dealing with a rapidly changing situation impacting on public health.
Since our MPE community and many visitors to our AGM meeting are in the highest risk category (immuno-compromised, older generation), the Board of MPE decided to cancel the AGM in the planned form of a face-to-face meeting in Amsterdam.
This is not a decision taken lightly. We have consulted all delegates and MPE members via survey, and we contacted public health experts and myeloma doctors to seek advice on the best course of action for the meeting.
The agenda for the Masterclass (planned 6 and 7 March) involved a wide range of expert speakers on topics from myeloma and AL amyloidosis updates through to medicines regulation and health technology assessment.
Whilst this will no longer take place face-to-face, MPE remains fully committed to delivering this programme of education. To this end, MPE will contact each speaker and discuss the potential of holding a webinar on the agreed topic in the coming weeks and months.
